Newcomer student in cohort of 2017 from FLTE, UFLS, UDN became the winner of the final round of the English Contest for Students (12/11/2017)

On the evening of 11 November 2017, at university of Can Tho took place the national final round of the English Contest for Students – Star Awards 2017. Representing university of Danang, Nguyen Le Quyen, student in class 17SPA02, majoring in English Language Teaching) from UFLS competed against 11 other excellent rivals from regions across the country.
 
The final round of Star Awards 2017 summoned the best representatives from six regions from the major universities in Vietnam such as Hanoi National University, Hochiminh National University, Hue University, Thai Nguyen University, Can Tho University, Tay Nguyen University… Candidate Nguyen Le Quyen, representing University of Danang, was the winner of the semi-final round at university of Economics in Danang.
 
During the final showdown, the competitors went through three rounds: Kick-off (self presentation within one minute); Accelerate (answer ten multiple choice questions) and Finish (twelve candidates formed four teams and decate on a topic-based issue).
 
 
At the beginning, Quyen aimed at the strategy: “Start gently, Speeding cautiously and Finish smartly”. Dr. Duong Nguyen Minh Huy – General Secretary of Youth Union at University of Danang said: “With this strategy, although staying at the third position after the first round, Quyen stood out other candidates in the rest of the contest and earned the trophy of the game. Besides, Quyen and his teams was very convincing during the debate round with arguments on Food Sanitation and Safety  in Vietnam, which is one of the hot issues in the society nowadays.”
 
 
At the final round, Quyen shared: “To be in the regional final and the national final of Star Awards 2017 was a journey of dream for me. I would like to thank all the people of the Youth Union and the organizers for opening this contest for all of us. This journey gave me unforgettable memories. Throughout the rounds, I have gained a  lot of experience, especially team-working to reach the ultimate goal.”
 
 
Star Awards attracted more than 25.000 students nationwie. The contest provided a friendly environment for students to practice language skills and soft skills. By doing this, students are encouraged to improve knowledge of history, economy, society, international topics and integration. The contest also plays the role of a bond between universities across Vietnam, which would lead to opportunities of collaboration, connection between entreprises and schools on improving quality of education for students who are the future leaders.
