Reconfirmed to be among top universities, students of UFLS-UD won the first prize in the 2018 nationwide English Olympiad for English major students (02/12/2018)

On 30th November, at the final showdown taken place at the campus of ULIS, candidates from UFLS-UD claimed the highest honor. Through the journey of more than 4 months with 4 rounds, the English Olympiad for English major students was proved to be a useful academic playground for students majoring in English from over 40 universities and colleges across the country.

Attending the final showdown of this year contest were the best 5 teams of former rounds: one team from the Northern region, one team from the Central region, one team from the Southern region, one team of most unique initiative and one runner up from region with most participants of round 2. The best five teams to claim the honor to contest in the final round include: People’s Security Academy, Military Science Academy, People’s Police Academy, UFLS-UD and University of Binh Duong.
 
With the following topic: “English in local tourism development”, at the Final stage, each team showed a five-minute video clip, then made a 10-minut presention of their ideas and opinions to the Panel. Each team got two minutes to answer questions from the judges and their opposing team. The results of the contest in the final night were announced with UFLS-UD team including five members: Dinh Van Hieu – class 16CNATM01; Nguyen Thi Bich Phuong – class 17CNA12; Duong Nguyen Tue Giang – class 15SPA02; Nguyen Thi Doan Thanh – class 17SPA01 and Tran Anh Thinh – class 17CNACLC01 excelling, conquering the audience and the Panel and becoming the Champion – winning the First Prize of the Olympiad.

To enjoy this honor and pleasure, the UFLS-UD team has experienced the 4-month journey to conquer challenges in various rounds including:
(1) Round 1 – Positioning: Testing at universities (July 2018);
(2) Round 2 – Constitution: Idea Competition (August 2018);
(3) Round 3 – Spread: Final of Central Region (September 2018);
(4) Round 4 – National Finals in Hanoi Capital (November 30, 2018).
 
Through several rounds, the teams showed their creativity and dedication to the community through unique ideas using English to promote local tourism, thereby creating a colorful and full of cultural identity as well as majestic natural beauty of Vietnam.
 
Earlier, at the Final round of the Central region, the team from UFLS – UD has successfully win the First prize thanks to their project introducing the K20 resistance base – the state-level history relic recognized in 2010 as both a symbol of Danang people’s unyielding spirit against tyranny during the American war and a tourist destination (Hue College of Economics – Hue University, University of Foreign Languages – Hue University, Hatinh University and Taynguyen University got the second, third, and consolation prize respectively). The Youth Union of UD is part of the Organization Board of the Competition, they have successfully organized the Final round of the Central region (October 25, 2018) and, at the same time, coordinating with UFLS – UD in selecting and training the team in the Competition.
 
 
Reputation, quality and academic excellence affirmation
 
Implementing the National Foreign Languages Project, English Olympiad provides valuable opportunities for students to enhance their English and knowledge in the international integration process, promotes the development of the language learning communities, particularly English in universities. This year’s competition attracted 40 teams from 40 different universities and colleges nationally. The theme of E4U CONTEST – 2018 is introducing, promoting Vietnam tourism in order to attract international visitors, providing a medium for students from universities to contribute to the community.
 
Congratulations to UFLS – UD and their team. The prestigious award in English Olympiad – E4US, as well as many other achievements in academic, lingual, culture and international integration of UFLS – UD students in 2018, have evidently confirmed their quality of education and scientific research, enhancing the reputation of UFLS in particular and UD in general in the national education system.
